Great article and as I think we've discussed now and then, and if I remember correctly, the workouts when first starting can lead to weight gain also from water weight and such as the muscles repair themselves. There are a few things I'm wondering though after talking to some people in relation to the above article. Someone had mentioned a few weeks ago about glucose (I think that was it, it was glu something..) and that sometimes if the body is not getting enough after workouts to repair themselves, that to can cause stalls or even weight gain. He had mentioned that great results when taking it as a supplement along with his workouts. Is there any truth to that?

A second question is you mention all the variables that could be an issue in weight loss. What's the best way to nail done which one it is that could be causing the issues, particularly as one gets closer to a leaner weight. Obviously at those points it can take longer even if everything is being done right from what I understand (the last 10 pounds issue most people have).

The reason I ask is because of celebrities. Obviously not all celebrities go about losing weight in a healthy manner, but there are those, particularly on the male side that are well toned or muscular and seem to get there fairly quickly even if they had never been that way before (Lautner comes to mind as does Gerard Butler). I'm hopefully assuming correctly that when it comes to getting in that time of shape where muscle tone is gained that it's not possible to do a starvation diet or such to achieve it so they have to be doing everything properly. As it is the movies, they sometimes are required to get into that shape in a fairly quick amount of time which leaves very little room for mistakes when it comes to their trainers and chef's ect.

As you mentioned, everyone's different and yet we see those trainers who are consistently able to help their clients achieve that in that field. That leads me to believe that A) they do have a very specific criteria that works almost universally for their clients, B) they have a way to quickly figure out where their clients differ and make those changes before they appear without having to go through all of the above possibilities to figure it out, or C) there's something else their using to achieve that in such a short period of time consistently. Any ideas on what that may be, and how healthy it is to do it?

I thought you might find this interesting as it does touch upon what you said in the possibility of artificial sweeteners adding to weight gain in other ways, particular in building someones sweet tooth where the artificial sweetener itself may not be the culprit but the foods it might cause one to crave will further gains in weight:
